I say F it, and just try to break it anyway! Are you going to tune the car yourself, or have someone do it for you? | | | 05-03-2010, 05:06 PM | #32 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Minneapolis, MN Posts: 307 | Well, I'm going to get a base calibration from Mike R. and see how close his base map will be. More than likely I'll bring it to a local shop to dial it in when I can. | | | 05-11-2010, 07:33 AM | #33 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Minneapolis, MN Posts: 307 | Some build update pics, for anybody interested. I have to remove turbo to change filter, but I have a better idea, i'll show you when it's done. Installed the intercooler, and temporarily set the grill in place. It's a shame to cover that ported inlet with a filter... Playing around with the AEM, waiting for my wiring harness... Ordered the v-band clamps and misc piping for the downpipe fabrication. In the process of replacing all the stock rubber fuel hose, looks like I have to drop the tank to get to all the hose, Expected time of first start up is roughly 1 month or less. | | | 05-11-2010, 08:16 AM | #34 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | Sickkkkkkk __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 05-11-2010, 08:24 AM | #35 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Avondale, Az Posts: 203 | Looking good dude. | | | 05-11-2010, 12:02 PM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | Very bad ass man. You can see my ports even less than yours. If you ever actually hit up Mike R's place for a dyno tune, let me know. Love to stop by and check it out.. maybe travel to Mexico for some fun, etc.. | | | 05-11-2010, 04:03 PM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Minneapolis, MN Posts: 307 | Thanks, yea for sure!! Typically it's Canada here, just because they never believe you went to mexico. I'll make sure I get some Canada pulls on video!! | | | 05-11-2010, 09:26 PM | #38 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Earth Posts: 178 | Sweet project, AEM isn't plug and play is it? | | | 05-11-2010, 10:17 PM | #39 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Minneapolis, MN Posts: 307 | Quote: Originally Posted by Junk Sweet project, AEM isn't plug and play is it? | No this is not, I'm hardwiring it in. You can get a plug n play from Maximum PSI or evosport, but it has to be vanos model engine and I don't have a vanos harness. My crank pulley is a vanos one, and I'm using a modified cam trigger wheel just so that I can get the support from Mike r. at Maximum PSI. I have to move jumpers inside the aem to make it work correctly as well as solder in a resistor to the aem main board. | | | 05-11-2010, 11:15 PM | #40 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Looks awesome. For the filter space issue, I've seen a guy or two on BF.C just running a screen there instead of a full filter. Don't know the downsides of this though. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. How did I not find this tread sooner or remember it. That is pure sex with a reach around... Man I will need to follow your thread like a book when I try my I-6 turbo swap. Looks great man. Can't wait for the start-up and hope you share some videos. Very cool, nice clean install. Interested in the tuning so share what you can, no code but who, what, where. My biggest problem is I keep running out of money. Who would of thought a heat shield would be 40 bucks, and v band clamps are 30 bucks a pop! I thought I was done, but it's only beginning. Wish me luck! | | | 05-16-2010, 08:45 AM | #43 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Minneapolis, MN Posts: 307 | Couple questions as I near completion. Is it normal for the transmission mount to be about 1 inch farther back than stock? I had to bolt through the slots on the bracket instead of the 4 holes. *it also made for a tight fit on the drive shaft, but it did fit* I just want to make sure the motor is sitting in the bay they way it is supposed to. Also I ordered the 6cyl radiator, and I'm aware I need to fab up the driver side mount for it to fit. What about the 2 connectors for the engine harness to body harness, any changes need to be made on those?? Car is 95, and engine is 92. | | | 05-16-2010, 12:14 PM | #44 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | I've never swapped in a NV, but pretty sure they're the same block, no? Are you sure your engine mounts are bolted to the block correctly? My partner put one on the wrong way, and I spent a while trying to jam the engine in. Once I realized what was wrong, bolted it up correctly, it went right in. Maybe double check that? Not sure on the connections to the motor for wiring. | | | 05-16-2010, 11:28 PM | #45 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | For the Rad mount, I'm pretty sure I took a large washer that had the inner hole big enough for the rad mount to sit in, then pop-riveted it to the chassis to hold it in place. Also had to re-do the upper mounts, but I didn't do the initial swap, so maybe mine was just hacked to begin with. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS.
