I would think it would be a bit throaty. I definately like this idea over a K&N. I've seen people with K&Ns and no heat shield so while you get the throaty sound, you are sucking up warm air. | | | 07-24-2004, 03:19 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Posts: 2 | I have a 96 318ti and was planning on going to a local BWW dealer and do the dinan performance upgrade since I have not found a chip or software download that can be done on my year except for dinan. I was planning on just going ahead and also doing the dinan cold air intake system. A couple of questions: 1. Is dinan the only way I can do a performance chip for a 96 318ti? 2. Is dinan cold air intake a good way to go? 3. Is it true that dinan cold air intake uses the K and N filter? Apprecite your thoughts! Pitstop | You could also try Bavarian Autosport, Turner Motorsport, or BMP Design for chips. | | | 07-24-2004, 06:33 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Littleton, CO Posts: 190 | as far as I know Dinan is the only one that offers a chip for the Ti, you can also look for a chip for a Z3 w/1.9L it is also an M44. as far as the intake is concerned I would go a different route than dinan. They make good stuff but it is way overpriced. Personaly I made my own using 4" inercooler piping and a K&N CAI kit off of ebay, came with a little elbow and the filter and a couple of clams and silicone joints. My Filter now sits behind the dirvers side foglight - get lots of cold air, and no need for a heat shield. I also took out the airdam in the frot. in the middle there is a large piece of plastic/rubber for the airdam, take it out. It is restricting airflow to the bottom half of your radiator. __________________ Custom Cold Air Intake, Custom IAT controller, SuperSprint Exhaust, High Flow CAT, Long Tube Header, H&R 'Race' Lowering springs, Short Shifter, JB Racing Lightweight Flywheel, M3 Clutch Kit w/Rogue Semi-Metalic Disk, Zex Nitrous System, Euro Clear Corners, Elipsoid Headlights w/Halos, Eyebrows, Window Tinting, Invisible Bra | | | 07-24-2004, 07:06 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | Dinan isn't the only company that makes chips for the ti, those other places that I have mentioned have chips for the ti. Also, Bavarian Autosport has cold air intakes for the ti for about $260, which is much cheaper than Dinan. | | | 07-24-2004, 08:29 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Littleton, CO Posts: 190 | I think Dinan is the only one that make chips for the OBDII Ti's - if you have an ODBI ti then everywhere has them. But for OBDII you have to have your ECU reprogramed (there is no chip). My CAI setup total was $30 - I would never spend that kind of money on an intake. __________________ Custom Cold Air Intake, Custom IAT controller, SuperSprint Exhaust, High Flow CAT, Long Tube Header, H&R 'Race' Lowering springs, Short Shifter, JB Racing Lightweight Flywheel, M3 Clutch Kit w/Rogue Semi-Metalic Disk, Zex Nitrous System, Euro Clear Corners, Elipsoid Headlights w/Halos, Eyebrows, Window Tinting, Invisible Bra | | | 07-24-2004, 09:06 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | I think they are all the same, because when I called about the chip for my ti, all my answers were that I would have to send away my ecu to get it reprogrammed. | | | 07-27-2004, 12:30 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | Quote: Originally Posted by StormSylph Do you guys knwo who makes a good Cold Air Intake for my 1996 318ti 1.9L? | This Italian company has a Carbon Dynamic Airbox cold air intake system. The website is www.bmcairfilters.com and it runs about $245 for a 318. | | | 08-18-2004, 10:14 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Truckee, CA USA Posts: 3 | Quote: Originally Posted by pitstop I have a 96 318ti and was planning on going to a local BWW dealer and do the dinan performance upgrade since I have not found a chip or software download that can be done on my year except for dinan.
