Ruben, Volgapower has a Torsen diff and they don't apply to the "if both flanges spin in the same direction" test. Torsen diffs act differently as they require torque to lock. All Z3's came with either Torsen diffs or LSD's. I believe the M roadsters and M coupes came with LSD's while all other non-M Z3's came with Torsen diffs. Torsen diffs are commonly marked with an "R" either on the case or on the identification tag. LSD's are commonly marked with an "S". Here's pics of all three for comparison:

Okay, yeah your right... sorry for being misleading... I guess I need to do some more homework. I assumed he was talking about a clutch style because he was testing it like it was one. And the operation he was describing sounded like he had a broken diff. Because he said that in gear he would spin one wheel and the other wheel would stay stationary. It threw me off. lol

Unfortunately here in the US we only got 1.8L and 1.9L 318ti's, so all of our cars came with small case diffs.

According to realoem.com, 323ti's equipped with manual transmissions came with 3.07 final drive ratios and 323ti's equipped with automatic transmissions came with 3.23 final drive ratios. Z3, e24, e28 and e30 differentials will also fit our cars. BTW, realoem.com is a very helpful site. Type in the last 7 digits of your vin# and you can find any part number and illustrations for your vehicle.

Default diffs

Jess,
Thanks for posting the pics of the different diffs. It helps resolve the "which one do I have?" issue. Its the one in the middle.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
