Default Air Bag Sensor Reset Tool - Process

Hey there,

I have an airbag light on and cannot seem to get the reset tool to deactivate the light.

The Reset Tool red light just keeps flashing and does not seem to cycle the problem.

Can someone help me?

Thanks,

John

I don't have much experience with this problem/tool but perhaps you could post up the specifics of which tool you're using and the year of your car? Maybe someone else may know something.

The car is a 1996 318Ti Sport. I dropped a large / overstuffed bag on the seat or my son was playing with the seatbelts.

The Airbag Light is on and I have the R-5 tool by Peak. Maybe I'll need the SRS Version of the R-5?

You need to read the code and replace whatever component has failed. There are common problems with the passenger seat. The occupant sensor, or the seat belt receptacle sensor.

You can double-check underneath the seat to make sure that both wires are plugged in.

Ahh, I think what mohaughn is saying (to clarify for myself and others), one of your sensors failed, which is throwing the SRS light. The tool may infact be resetting the light, but with one of those sensors failing, the SRS light keeps coming back on. Do you have a check engine light as well, if you do, that may tell you which sensor is to blame. Otherwise it's a guessing game (as far as i know).

Also you might have a different PEAKE tool that doesn't reset SRS (you might be right)

Which one of those is a close match?

SRS sensors will not throw a CEL code. They throw an SRS code. Your standard OBDII CEL code reader may not be able to read SRS codes.

I know peake makes a specific SRS code reader. I think it is the R5/SRS code reader/reset tool.
