Default Rebuilt transmission or new transmission, which one is cheaper?

is it cheaper to purchase a new transmission or buy one and then put it in? i just purchased my ti and i dont have that much money.

Just speaking from my experience with American cars. I would say it is cheaper to rebuild, where as a new one would be $2500 a rebuilt would be $1800, (just pulled those #s out of thin air and talking out of my @ss abit) the other option is to get one from a Junk yard maybe $800. if it was me I would rebuild becuase then you get the chance to add options like a shift kit or a tranny cooler etc..

If we are talking about BMW trannys, I don't think you can get a new one. It would be a rebuilt which essentially is new. When my tranny was replaced under warranty back in 99 it would have been $3500.

what exactly is wrong with your transmission? it could well be fixed for a lot cheaper by a qualified shop depending on what's wrong with it.
