Talking New Ti owner

HI everyone over the weekend I picked up two 1997 alpine white ti's. I have been searching this site for the past week taking notes, looking at everyone's posts ect. I am STILL unsure what models I acquired. Both have cloth seats, however one is an automatic with fog lights, and the other is a 5 sd manual same cloth interior, NO fog lights. Going to get pics of both vin numbers today to sort that all out, But just wondering if anyone has any tips to jump right into it let me know, Im a little unsure where to start, but i already know i'll need breaks oil change **** new filters, hoses, piping, ect. But for all you ti fanatics with much more experience help a fellow out.

When you say brakes...are you referring to brake fluid flush? Usually you can look at your brakes and see if they will need replacement. No need to replace them if they look good. Oil change is always good unless seller has provided anything showing it was done recently. Same with filters, but they are cheap, don't forget about the cabin filter. One thing I always stress on BMWs is the cooling system. If you don't know the history, best to change everything (radiator, hoses, thermostat, water pump, and coolant) Belts too.
I would recommend getting all your parts from FCP. They are not the cheapest, but that warranty comes in handy with all those wear or regular replacement parts.

Enjoy

Check the front sway bar mounts - one of my tis had one that was completely rusted off. I had to have someone weld on a new on.

Edit:
Also, I second the cooling system suggestion. When you do it, double check the heater core nipples and connections. You'll hate your life if you do everything and then those leak after everything is put back together.

Edit #2:
For the plastic connectors in the cooling system - do NOT buy URO Parts brand. It will not sit flush. BUY AUTHENTIC FROM BMW ONLY

Thanks everyone! Appreciate that. Also Jim I’m so glad to connect with you if you’re from CT, my 97 ti has been sitting for about 10 years. It’s been sitting in CT cold weather, barely driven, just moved around the dudes yard sporadically. If you have any other input for what i should do first, or preventive measures. I’ve already done some engine upkeep changed belts, plastic pieces, hoses and just wondering some second and third opinions for what’s to come. Any help is appreciated, she’s running pretty good and i cleaned out the housing and ICV. Just let me know anything else you can think of

Need to drive with a pad and take notes.

Get it nice and hot in the yard, and short trips are fine, but longer trips and varied terrain will tell a better story. Brake fluid should be flushed out, if you haven't already. It's really only good for 2-3 years sitting idle before it sucks up too much water and the lines rot from the inside out.

Look up "inspection II" and do all that stuff to get you 90% to a ready to drive cross country car.

Same here. Completely detached front sway bar. New mount welded on and the bar was powder coated.
