Default Replacing the power steering pump, hose placement

In the process of replacing my power steering pump, I've ended up needing to replace a misplaced banjo bolt.

I pulled up the drawing on RealOEM and I'm now concerned.

Where I'm confused is that, when I pulled my old pump out, I believe the #1 hose and #5 hose were in each other's place. I.e., the #5 hose was on the top of the pump, and the #1 hose was on the diagonal/side.

I have a '95 with the M42, and am wondering if anyone else has replaced the PSP on one of these and can confirm whether the drawing, or what I saw, was the correct configuration. I'll update this with pictures tonight when I get home to illustrate what exactly I'm seeing.

Thanks,

Can't help you there but I do suggest replacing the reservoir.
There is a filter in there.

Yeah I replace most of the system, res hoses etc. The guy I bought it from had been running power steering fluid through it, so I'm going to have to figure out a way to flush it as well once I get it back together and hopefully get the remaining PS fluid out. Do appreciate the suggestion, though.

Ah, clever. Of course. Put everything together except the return hose to the reservoir, turn the motor over and keep pouring fresh ATF in until it's coming out clean.

Thanks for the link.

I have replaced the PS pump a few times on my ti and none of the real oem diagrams matched the setup in the car. You just have to wing it and make sure you have the washers on both sides too...

There might be a pic of the pump in Cirrus' write up.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I put it back together tonight the way it came off and when I ran it everything flushed properly to Cirrus' and the Bentley manual's suggestion.

Got under to finish hooking the return line up and, wouldn't you know, big ol' puddle on the ground around my catch bucket. Had a look for the problem and there's a tear in my driver's side PS linkage boot. So... a little more fun to be had before she's driving again.

Getting close to a whole new PS system :-/

What I love, is that the rubber hose attached to the trombone is impossible to find anywhere by itself. It's some whacky 11.3mm hose which is like 7/16" and I have just gotten weird looks when I ask about it.

I hear ya, that's the one hose I didn't replace - parts store wanted almost $200 for a new one, so I'm hoping it won't have been the leak I was seeing.
