Default ***DIY*** Relocating The Battery To The Cargo Area

As most of you already know, e36 coupes, sedans and convertibles have a trunk mounted battery while the 318ti houses the battery on the passenger side of the engine compartment. '96 and newer 318ti's are OBDII which means that they are equipped with an M44 engine that uses a secondary air pump as a...

cooljess76,
Great write-up. I just finished moving mine. I ended up using an Odyssey PC680 battery. It starts the S52 right up with no problems and fits in the plastic storage well. I did have to Dremel out the ribs on the front and rear walls of the well. Anyway, a couple of things you might want to add to the write-up. The seat belt bolt in step 6 is a T-50 torx. That slowed me down a bit as I didn't have one. Also, i just happened to have some OEM body nuts lying around and they fit the holes in the fender for the distribution block bracket perfectly. Part number is 63-17-1-367-868.

not sure what you heard about their reliability record.. but I just replaced the 925PCMJ I bought in 1994. It has been in two cars, been through several nasty winters, and in an accident that totalled the car I owned before the TI. Until it finally started to fail this past summer/fall and did fail while the car was in storage in my garage.. I NEVER had a problem with it
