There is a knowledge base article about it. Is the alarm still connected to everything? If so, you just need to get a fob and program it to get it to work. Edit - http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23572 What year is your car? Earlier cars had a 3 button remote, later cars had a 2 button remote. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 12-01-2009, 06:13 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | i have a 95 active. i have seen keys on ebay.. any better quality than others? dealer re-programs the transponder i assume? | | | 12-01-2009, 06:14 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | The one I got on ebay was an OE remote, a little dinged up but still works great. Check wolferj's posts (#4 and #5) in the link I posted to see how to program the remote. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 12-01-2009, 06:26 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | okay, read the link. just to clarify.. the actual key for the ignition is also the remote right? does the remote part install on to the key or do you have to have it cut from a blank?? sorry confused.. i have seen key remotes.. | | | 12-01-2009, 06:26 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Safety Harbor, FL Posts: 112 | I actually wandered into the same situation your in not too long ago. I have the same exact thing but i needed a 3 button fob(04-95), i don't think you can buy those on eBay and i wasn't going to spend $80 at a BMW dealership. So i just waited till i saw someone on here with an extra one and bought it. It cost me about $20 but it was worth it, now i don't have to manually open the doors with a key now | | | 12-01-2009, 06:27 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | i'm pretty sure i need a 3 button also.. have to go out side and check production date on my 95 | | | 12-01-2009, 06:28 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Safety Harbor, FL Posts: 112 | open the the little hatch to the actual alarm base and if there is a chip inside i am pretty sure you will need a 3 button | | | 12-01-2009, 06:43 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | just looked at my production date.. 7/95, so mine should be a 3 button. answered my own question above by reading the pelican parts link.. separate key and remote. any way to retrofit and combine them? i know i have seen e36 with key remotes.. | | | 12-01-2009, 07:02 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Safety Harbor, FL Posts: 112 | no because you have to run the keyless entry with the chip thats inside the alarm base... only way to get around it is just buying a whole new alarm? but just look around on here and see if anyone has an extra... its worth a try | | | 12-01-2009, 07:19 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | yea, i've been researching now. the key remote is only 97 up apparently. i found a few 3 button key fobs for 30-65.00 or new at the dealer for 100.00.. it'll come eventually. | | | 12-01-2009, 09:13 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | I'm in a similar boat .Mine has the factory alarm and has a new fob in the glove box.
