Default Caution - concerning our seatbelt system

I found structural cracks on the plastic bracket that holds the belt on the window pillar, it would probably snap on a roll over or violent accident.. (knock on wood), making the belt useless.
Also my belt buckle must be clipped with a lot of attention or else it doesn't lock completely and a simple wiggle will disengage it.

I hope there's metal inside the seatbelt loop! I can't imagine it's just plastic. They seem to all crack, I bought some seatbelts in better shape and they're still cracked (but at least the new ones aren't starting to get fuzzy). .. maybe try cleaning the receptacle..

The plastic is a coating to keep from fraying the nylon seatbelt. It's metal inside.

As for the actual latch, you might try cleaning it. It could just have a bunch of buildup that is keeping it from latching, or it could just be broke.

And the cover is not available unless you buy an entire seatbelt.

you mean the little one that just covers the bolt? bavauto.com sells them

the belt on my E30 does the same thing though, I have to push it in and out a few times until it clicks, I should probably fix that so I don't have it pop loose while I'm tracking my car

I'm pretty sure Steven is talking about the upper loop that the seatbelt hangs from. The plastic cover is part# 72118119186, #10 in this diagram:http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...01&hg=72&fg=05

But yes, as mentioned before, I think the loop just has a plastic coating that is known to crack, no biggie.

You must be correct or else the plastic would never resist...

I could have sworn I tried to buy that part and it wasn't available separately.
