15mm pad install problem

Well I purchased some 15mm pads to solve a few problems. First and to remove a little bit of negative camber from the rear of my car. Also, to reduce rubbing and because it will look a little better as far as height, since currently the rear sits lower than the front. Well I took the rear shock off, I thought with the trailing arm just hanging I could easily remove the spring, not so. I think I'm going to have to get a spring compressor.

I found a write-up on Jim Powell's website. Essentially he says to leave the wheels on to weigh down the arms, and the pads will slip right out. If that doesn't work I'm going to rent one from the local parts store.

The swaybar is keeping it up. Did you disconnect that?

that doesn't sound real good for the shocks.

i hope he means "less supported" rather than completely unsupported.

Once BOTH dampers have been released and the anti roll bar links, there should be plenty of free movement to enable you to remove the rear springs. I have never heard of compressors ever being needed on the rear!

You guys are right and I'm a retard. I thought it would be easier to do one at a time so I didn't even disconect the shock on the other side. That would make more sense.

I'd changed the rear spings on two tis in the past(one Active, the other was Base), both times I had to use the spring compressor. Everything was disconnected: sways, shocks, and handbrake(released).

To my knowledge the only "correct" way to install the rear springs
is by removing the drive axle from the final drive. This will ensure
you don't damage the CV joints or the springs, which could certainly
happen. I've done this a few times on the Ti...while removing the bolts is more involved, it will save time and repairs in the future.

Sounds like the correct way to go about the procedure timonster. I have no access to a manual presently as the Bentley manual over here costs around £50....sod that for a game of soldiers!

I didn't have to disconnect the sways to get the springs out, just make sure you have the e-brake released. Ask me how I know......
