Is it possible to put a second tow hook receiver mount on the driver side? There is one tow hook receiver on the passenger side. I'd like to fab a base plate using the 2 tow hooks so I can flat tow my 5 speed. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-16-2017, 11:53 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I would not use those hooks to secure to a flatbed. The don't connect directly to the chassis. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-18-2017, 02:00 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I would not use those hooks to secure to a flatbed. I plan to get the passenger side bumper support and mount it on the driver side. I can see how they attached to the front cross member. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-18-2017, 02:25 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by bazar01 Really? I had to bang the chassis to get the bumper to align properly. ADD: Front? I was referring the the rear. But I assume it's the same deal. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org Last edited by 1996 328ti; 09-18-2017 at 02:34 PM. | | | 09-19-2017, 02:02 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Well I went to the junk yard and got the passenger side bumper shock mount with the threaded piece for the tow hook. It was bolted to the front chassis with 4 6mm bolts and nuts. It looked sturdy to me. I will pull out the unthreaded driver side bumper mount and mount the threaded mount I got from the junk yard. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-19-2017, 03:50 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Good luck. After being towed I remember I needing to buy a new shock and pound out the frame. Again, it was the rear. I found my original thread. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28324 __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org Last edited by 1996 328ti; 09-19-2017 at 04:01 PM. | | | 10-14-2017, 09:14 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Well I was able to get a passenger side front bumper mount from the yard and got it installed on the driver side. I am fabricating a base plate that bolts to the threaded mount for the tow hook. The base plate will attach to my tow bar so I can flat tow it. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 10-14-2017, 09:19 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Here is the river side tow hook. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
