Default Driveshaft Differences

Hey all,

I'm currently trying to figure out what is going on between these driveshafts I have. I picked up a ZF transmission and driveshaft out of another ti recently to swap my own car. After some debate I just decided to rob the rear half of the driveshaft I bought and splice it onto the front end of mine.

However we noticed on doing this that it was slightly thicker, and a hair longer then my stock 1998 manual transmission driveshaft.

Any explanations as to why this may be? As best as I can tell this will still work just fine.

I am not sure why it would be slightly longer however, afaik, the two halves of the driveshaft were balanced together as as a single unit. matching different halves with each other might produce an unbalanced driveline, even if the white dots on each of the halves are in alignment.

Yup, I had accounted for that and was going to take it to a driveshaft shop to get it balanced. As it turns out it was the back half of a 325i drive shaft though so I decided against using it. It did come out of an m52 swapped ti, so I know it works in that application.

Thanks though!

And Getrag gearboxes comes with Getrag driveshaft. There are many differences between ZFs and Getrags

getrag 78/110 output flange and guibo 12mm bolts
ZF 96/130

if you change your output flange on the box you can use both of them
