New to the site and BMW's. I'm going to look at a 318ti Turbo, 5 speed about 95,000 miles: What should I look out for? Any advice is greatly appreciated | | | 11-17-2005, 03:53 PM | #2 | doesn't care about you. Compression test would be good, and any signs of a head gasket leak. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 11-17-2005, 11:00 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Watford, herts, England Posts: 805 | make sure that all of the tubing and connections between the turbo - engine - cooling system look right and if it has a dump valve make sure it is fited correctly, i.e it shouldnt have been fitted by anyone who does'nt know their way around turbo's. they arent cheap to fix! if in doubt, its always worth paying for a proper mechanical vehicle inspection. __________________ '96 318ti in Montreal Blue :m-tec sideskirts,m-bootspoiler,clear corners & repeaters .m-tech side mouldings, Magnex Exhaust System, leather armrest, F-15 gear Knob, 18" Evo 2's. The turbo may sound cool now but it wont after you are spending alot of time and money fixing things that are wrong with it. If you want a turbo ti then you should buy a stock one and put the turbo in yourself so there are no surprises on the drive home. | | | 12-17-2005, 09:19 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Madison, WI Posts: 121 | Quote: Originally Posted by aceyx If it is in fact a turbo, check that the wastegate is still working, and ask replacement intervals.
