I was wondering if i can install all my suspension on my 1998 318ti(front and back). Do i keep the same shocks and springs or install the ones that are on the 328? Since i am planning to do a 328 engine swap really soon, i though i would do this now until i find a good deal on a engine. What do you guys think? | | | 08-01-2009, 04:47 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | search. __________________ -Jeff | | | 08-01-2009, 04:54 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: San Diego Posts: 6 | i tried to do a search and didnt get far. All the rear's of the E36 line weigh different therefore all have different spring compression or weight ability. Since our cars are probably the lightest out of the E36s and I see you're trying to do a suspension "swap" you should compare the weight of the ti and the 328i, guessing its a coupe, you will see that it is obviously not the same. So if you were to slap on the 328i rear springs and shocks you'll probably be riding like a monster truck and not very well at all. Not a good idea. However, if we talk about the front end of the ti it is a different story. You see, with some research and reading you will see that our ti's have a "sedan front end", meaning everything forward of the a-pillar is a sedan fitment. I'm not saying that a coupe's front shocks and springs won't fit, just that fenders and such are sedan stuff. I would NOT put the 328i's front suspension on just yet. WAIT until you do your swap b/c with the added strength the spring has it's going to raise your car higher, give POOR performance, look dork-ish, and plainly not gonna work for what you want it to UNTIL you do your motor swap. SO for as long as you keep your car stock, meaning not have the motor swapped out just stick with oem or aftermarket stuff FITTED SPECIFICALLY for the ti. Only a few of the members have odd swapped suspension components BUT they have motor swaps. GL bruh. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! Marv's 332ti is in the werks. You cannot swap the rears from the 328 to the ti. The fronts are interchangeable. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-02-2009, 05:38 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: San Diego Posts: 6 | Thanks for the help guys, i guess i cant even use the brake system. haha... | | | 08-02-2009, 06:22 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | front brakes are the same, the rears wont fit sadly the front dampers and springs can be used, but they are for a 6cyl, ergo the weight difference will cause the front end to lift The rears are not compatible __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! The brakes, those you can probably use. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit!
