Default 1997

I am thinking of buying a 1997 ti with about 70000 on the clock. Are there any known service problems to look out for.

That's very low mileage for these cars. I would check out the cooling system, but that's about it. That should be good for another 30k anyway

what is it exactly fella

316 / 318? and the year?

All in all , a good car.

Service as per normal, check the steering rack / wishbones at the front

Engine mounts and trans mounts

Anything audible by the wheels when turning (dodgy wheel bearing)

wet floorwell, could mean blocked drain holes.

Twitchy rear end in cornering, could mean worn trailing arm bushes

70K is nothing for these cars... providing the previous owner was not a tool.
I got 165K on mine (blown @ 135), and it still hauls the mail (& gets 400-420 miles to the tank)...
good luck.

One good thing to look for is it's service history. If it's a full BMW service history then you can go to BMW and ask for a detailed print out of what has been done so far.

I bought my 1996 about 2 months ago now, had 120,000km on the clock. And it's getting about 12.6km/l in urban driving (about 610km to the tank).
