Default Cold Air Intake

I've been looking for a cold air intake for my 98 318ti. Can anyone recommend one that actually works well?

We tried the K&N, but it didn't fit with my year.

You'll run the risk of hydrolocking the car. Check out I believe robcarync's modification of the cosmoracing CAI.

yeah you do risk of hydrolocking the ti like ATF mentioned. but its SUMMER so you wont have to worry about that for anther few months... but until then...

i have the same one on my '97. had it on thru out the winter months, rain season, and went thru puddles and what not. but i was careful not to go thru puddles that deep to cause such a thing. if you're careful i dont think you'll have a problem.

At least for my car, it is practically impossible to got it hydrolocked. You'd have to be going backwards at 30mph in a 6" puddel to get water up to the intake.....So what he said, don't worry about it.

if your uncomfortable with that intake and its placement, see if they off a SRI w/ heatshield... I picked up a 6cyl one for my swap, seems to fit nicely...

FWIW, There is little to no gain on getting an intake... its all for aesthetics.

For the most part I agree. The only gains I got on my old one were at top end where it was actually trying to suck more air. I'm planning to try and put my own together using parts from spectre performance which you can pick up at your local O'Reillys. My old one was an ICEMAN which had a removeable downpipe so I could run run the filter up top in bad weather so I am want to build something similar for my E36.

well, today, I just had to drive home through a huge rainstorm, I drove at a pretty normal speed given that with the wipers on at full speed I could still barely see, I had to avoid a couple of huge puddles but my car didn't hydrolock so I really don't think it's a problem with the intake

I just installed this a week ago. Very happy with this purchase! Makes the TI sound Mean, and run smoother (imo)

Thanks for the recommendation!

No, the ICV is no where near where the CAI goes.
