I drove my 80 mile commute to work today and stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a coffee and my car wouldn't start when I tried to drive off. I was sitting there for about 10 minutes trying to get it to start but nothing happened. The car sounds like it wants to start but the engine won't kick over. I have a half tank of gas my battery is fairly new. I finally got the car started and got to work. Now it still won't start again and Im stuck at work. Any ideas. Please help me I need to get home later today. Im getting so frustrated with my car. Or does the motor not even turn over? When the car does start, does it start immediately? Or does it sputter a little bit? __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-01-2006, 05:58 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | Quote: Originally Posted by nusstroy well judging on the fact that most of the people who own cars on this website have any 318 ti from 95-99, it might jut be old dude, it might just be dying haha | Why are you on this website? I doubt his car is dying. We've only had like 2 or 3 engines die on this forum and they were caused by massive overheating or driving thru deep water with an aftermarket cold air intake. Let's try to help madfronter out so he can get his car up and running again. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-01-2006, 06:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT Is your check engine light on? It's odd that the CEL isn't on...I'd start with a new set of plugs, luckily they are super easy and fast to change out. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 05-01-2006, 06:03 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Barnstaple North Devon Posts: 92 | If it is turning over, then your battery is good. I was only let down by my previous beemer once, and that would crank but not fire. After 3weeks, the garages ( combined efforts) FOUND THAT THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY HAD TWISTED, SO THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS GETTING DODGY READINGS( flamin caps lock!) and effectively flooding the engine. They installed a second hand pulley and all was well. That was an m50 six cylinder lump. They did try : cam sensor, ecu, air flow sensor etc first but to no avail. Hopefully your problem will be way simpler. as i am no mechanic i cant really offer more advice. Sometimes cranking it and putting your foot on the accelerator to the floor may get it started. hope you get home under your own steam.
