If your battery is dead and the car will not start even after being jumped you might have a bad ground connection check the starter connections one more time. | | | 11-23-2008, 08:26 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: North Bay, Northern California Posts: 251 | I really don't think it is the starter...as I was putting it back together I started the car many times and it turned the fly wheel... | | | 11-23-2008, 02:06 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | It is your battery. This means the battery is bad, i would just replace it... | | | 11-26-2008, 11:59 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: North Bay, Northern California Posts: 251 | UPDATE so i got a new battery and tried to start the car. The starter would spin but the solenoid wouldn't engage THEN when i took the key out the starter wouldn't stop spinning so i disconnected the battery. I let it sit for 30 mins and tried again...as soon as i turned the key in to the ignition position everything shorted out no lights or anything anywhere... I am about to give up...except it's thanks giving tomorrow so no shops are going to be open...and if you guys had more input I'll have to try... | | | 11-27-2008, 12:09 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you had a bad battery AND a bad starter. Have you checked the fuses? Hopefully you can put in a new fuse and try again, but it sounds like that starter is acting up. Can you get a friend to disconnect the battery if the starter sticks again? It sucks that you can't just turn the key off and have the thing stop spinning. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 11-27-2008, 12:23 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | I've never had the starter off my 318ti. How long would it take to get it off and have it tested? I think Autozone can test it. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 11-27-2008, 01:14 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: North Bay, Northern California Posts: 251 | Autozone will test it...and I'm such a pro at taking my intake manifold off now that I could do it...I'll let you guys know what ends up happening...and no I haven't had a chance to check the fuses... when it all shorted out I just went to school... | | | 11-27-2008, 03:45 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Im calling a bad engine ground. May sound dumb, but take the jumper cables, run it from the negative battery terminal, and ground it to the block somewhere, like the engine mount, either side. See what happens. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 12-06-2008, 05:24 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Hey lonewolf - wondering how you came out with this problem. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 12-06-2008, 09:38 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: North Bay, Northern California Posts: 251 | so i was about to call the tow truck and gave it one more try for the hell of it and it started...so i let it run for a little bit to warm up and ran up stairs to get my wallet... i came down fuel was leaking EVERYWHERE fuel lines to fuel rails weren't tight enough but everything is fine and I have NO IDEA what was wrong.... | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
