Leaking auto transmission fitting

I have a leak on the fitting that is just above the pan, on the drivers side, at the back of the tranny. I have the new seal but cannot loosen the fitting. It will tighten (but not enough to stop the leak) and will only loosen a little bit before binding up. I don't want to strip it or break it. Does anyone know if I am missing a step or of a trick to loosen it, or am I better off taking it to the dealer?
