The viewing angle of the current location sucks bigtime. i was thinking of cutting a hole for the unit in the space between the gear stick and just under the front console. has anyone seen what's behind that panel and whether there's space behind to hold the unit? thanks __________________ -Impyboy | | | 08-09-2006, 02:22 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | I don't think there is enough space. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 08-09-2006, 10:33 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 90 | You would have an issue with the depth of the head unit. also, in that location you would have to tilt the unit up quite a bit to be able to see it and that would make the back hit the trans tunnel. You could possibly remove the centre air vents and mount it at a slight angle there but it would be a hell of a lot of work for little gain. __________________ Ian '97 Ti Sport DASC, TT S2, B&M SSk, x-brace, H&R coil overs & sway bars, Big brakes | | | 08-10-2006, 09:57 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: London Posts: 79 | hmmm. yeah, doesn't seem worth the trouble. i'll just keep it there for now. at least the back seat passenger can enjoy it. they're the ones who end up driving the car anyway, backseat drivers! hehehe __________________ -Impyboy | | | 08-13-2006, 09:40 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Barnstaple North Devon Posts: 92 | I agree the standard location isnt good for driver readability, have you looked at different headunits? My head unit is a kenwood mask and it has a tilt function. This means that the bottom edge of the faceplate sticks out maybe 5 mm, thus allowing me to see the display clearly. With the faceplate flush with the headunit, i couldnt see the display at all. It could also be the display technology that is letting you down. The viewing angle of some types of screen is poor. ( lcd / dot matrix) maybe go to your local car stereo shop and look at some different models? I havent ben in the market for some time, so would be unable to help with any model suggestions. I haven't been in the market for quite a while also, but i've always been a PIONEER man. I was actually hoping the pioneer head units had the adjustable tilt like they do with their video screen units, but unfortunately, they don't. As i was on a budget, i couldnt' afford any thing as expensive as my first system 10 years ago. But my current unit has the OEL display, so it's quite readable __________________ -Impyboy | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
