Default Do you push it or baby it?

My friends always call me a conservative driver when I'm driving my BMW. I did all the maintenance stuff, but a part of me is a little scared to push it. BMW isn't the best at reliability.

How many of you push your cars and is it okay to push it? I have no worries when I'm driving the Honda cause I'm not worried about fixing it.

Depends on the current condition of the car. If it has some stuff wrong with it and you push it, then it will break and cost more, but if you do some preventive maintenance ... well then, have some fun .

I flog my car pretty hard, I frequent the road you see in my sigpic, but I also do the maintenance for the kind of driving I do (or I try to =S).

Its the same with any car, the question is how quick will it wear at the rate you drive it at and how much it will cost to maintain it at the level that you drive it at.

TO quote a BMW factory instructor...... When asked for the third time by the same women when to shift gears....

"Shift it when the rev limiter kicks in its a BMW not a effen YUGO...."

From what I've seen these cars need to be wound up regularly babying them carbons up the valves and clogs the cat... Age is as much an enemy as anything on a german car, they cant make rubber parts for anything...

I used to think that BMWs weren't as reliable as the Japanese brands, but then I got Trixie (my 318ti) and Sparky (a 1982 320i). I've since sold Sparky, which I deeply regret, but I've still got Trixie. Both cars were very reliable - Trixie is going on 16 and Sparky was 23 when I sold him. The only issues I've had with both is stuff that normally wears out - brakes, suspension parts, etc. As long as you pay attention to your routine maintenance and don't cut corners, they will last just as well as any other brand.

I push mine pretty hard and I drive it everyday. It's too fun to drive! lol, especially if you have a manual transmission.

The laws of physics and metallurgy don't change...cars that are driven hard wear out faster. The choice is the owner's to make.

Let it warm up and then floor it, pull to the rev limiter if you want, I know I've heard on numerous occasions M42's like high rmp's, not sure about M44 but its probably the same, Besides all your power is above 3-3.5k rpm anyways, just go hard, if it blows, swap in a 6

i agree with everyone one...enjoying the car is what its all about. Yes, the rubber parts wear, electronic bits go bad and keeping up with maintenance is key (and not that hard!)
My dad had a 79' 320i with well beyond 500k (odometer eventually gave out but he kept driving it for 5 more years), it was slow and tired but didn't burn a drop of oil and would cruze the highway @ 60mph all day. Original motor, trans, diff...
These cars/engines are made to last, not like throw away when they break cars (Kia's, old hyundai's and few american cars(but their stepping up their game)).
Those are my 2 pesos

"its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" i push it without hesitation, keep up with the maintenance and everything's just fine
