Simply put, this car sounds amazing and if it's for real I really, really want one. http://www.gizmag.com/go/5301/ * NOTE: I'm not a muscle car guy. 157mpg sounds more heavenly to me than any 10 cylinder engine could. | | | 03-03-2006, 04:27 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Asheville NC Posts: 669 | it's a shame that we'll probably not see anything like that in the US for many many years :-( | | | 03-03-2006, 04:33 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Indianapolis, IN Posts: 228 | I went to their homepage and on the "Buy" link they mention a production date of 2009. If they stay on schedule I assume they'll be in Europe around that time, so that's the most optomistic we can be I suppose. Man...that would be so awesome. And it's not even painte per se, its body panels are essentially fancy "colored plastic". | | | 03-03-2006, 04:54 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | I just hit 18.1mpg city. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 03-03-2006, 04:58 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Asheville NC Posts: 669 | Quote: Originally Posted by SDKmann I just hit 18.1mpg city. | you must drive fast and take chances. I get about 30mpg at 80-85 mph around 4k rpms. | | | 03-03-2006, 05:07 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Malden, MA Posts: 672 | Quote: Originally Posted by SDKmann I just hit 18.1mpg city. | My Gas mileage is about the same as yours. I'm happy if I hit 25 or so... any tips on what you do to get that kind of mileage? edit: Saw this on the gizmag site... sounds kind of interesting. edit: forgot to post the link: http://www.gizmag.com/go/4936/ | | | 03-03-2006, 06:45 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Asheville NC Posts: 669 | how do you pull away from intersections? do you floor it a lot? that makes a huge difference. Also is your car a 5 speed or auto? my 5 speed gets 2-3 mpg better than the auto. Do you hit your brakes a lot? every time you hit the brakes you're throwing away energy. | | | 03-03-2006, 06:55 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Malden, MA Posts: 672 | Mine is an auto, and there are sometimes that I have to floor it. The gas mileage doesn't really bother me though. When I'm on the highway, my gas milage gets much better. __________________ "Power Rules, Smooth is Fast, Late Brake if you HAVE TO, But Always get the Inside Line.......and Fear No One." | | | 03-03-2006, 06:57 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | Generally my driving is very smooth and I don't gun it or charge from intersection to intersection. I have a 5-speed and though I'm not the greatest driver by any means, I do know how to drive and shift to keep from wasting fuel. My highway mileage (75-80) for example is about 25-27... city is closer to 20. Never even seen the other side of 30... | | | 03-03-2006, 07:11 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | One thing I noticied is that the engine has a "happy range" if you shift too low you have to give way more gas and that makes the gas mileage drop instead of getting better. I think shifting 3-3.5 is optimal. Again that doesn't mean flooring it to that rpm, but gently winding out the engine to there. Make sure tires are inflated really well too. Clean filters are essential. Keep a steady foot on the accelerator when cuising to keep the ecu in closed loop. Those are a few suggestions I have. BTW my car is chipped and I believe that would negatively impact gas milage. Before I took the profile down on my tires by 5 I could get 34-37 mpg highway. | | | 03-03-2006, 07:56 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | I drive at an average of 85 MPH on my 160 mile per day commute and get about 400-420 miles to a tank of gas. | | | 03-05-2006, 08:25 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | I drive a auto and do sometimes floor it when I can. But would that really take my mpg down to 18.1? __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
