Default Car won't start

A few months ago I bought a clubsport that needed some work. I was told that it only needed a new ignition switch but it needed alot more. The dealer that had it had someone try to put a used non ews lock cyclinder in. I changed that out and put the proper one in along with a new ring antenna, ignition switch and ordered a new key. when I put the key in and turn the ignition everything lights up but it doesn't crank. I was told by my guy from the parts dept. that I shouldn't have to have the ews aligned since the parts were coded for my car. thanks in advance

nice to see a denver user. um i am pretty sure that has to be aligned by the dealer.

i could be mistaken though.

just double check if battery is charged.

there is a good group of guys that meet up in denver area im sure they would love to help you out with anything and have you join their meets.
heres a link to their upcoming meet.

I charged the battery before I tried to start it.

I've seen that you guys were putting something together. Hopefully I'll get it running by then I've been dying to drive it!

Something like did happen to my cousins audi but it think it was his battery or starter i'm not sure. But in your case it could be something else. Well yea if you do get it running you should stop buy and check out the group.

Is there any way to test the ews module to see if it is bad?

If you cant aligned the ews then you will have to get an ews module and there like arouns 250-300 depending on what dealer you go to

the problem is the NEW KEY, which has a transponder in it. you will most likely have to go to a dealership since most other places jus scratch their head and go speachless when you put bmw and electronic problem in the same question. the bmws with ews do communicate with the key. i dropped my master key( you know the one with the button and light) and it came apart and the chip fell out and i didnt think anything of it because i thought it was just for the light. turns out it woudnt actually crank without that chip within inches of my ignition. germans just have to be confusing..

ian..

Well carlos i have the same problem but i couldn't fix it myself so it's going to the dealer. I think i could have used your help since you have done this before but oh well at least we know who to go to if it happens again.

yeah I could not fix it my self either. I had to have my independent bmw shop take care of it. They have an autologic system that lets them code keys and instrument clusters and stuff like that. From what I hear they can do anything the dealer can and do it a little cheaper.
