I have just about all the parts for my 5 speed swap except clutch and flywheel. I am trying to go as budget as possible on this so I am thinking a stock flywheel with an OEM like clutch. What stock flywheel should I use? I plan on getting it lightened by a machine shop, they should easily be able to take off 6-8lbs. Sachs clutch kits seem to be very popular..what is the best, cheapest place to get the kit, ebay seems a popular option. So far I have only spend $280 on the swap, these are the last parts I need __________________ -Jeff | | | 01-18-2009, 05:44 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | anyone? __________________ -Jeff | | | 07-30-2009, 10:36 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | What set-up did you finally go with? Did you have the flywheel turned or just use it stock? __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I paid $12.50 for the flywheel at a local junkyard, and $60 to have it resurfaced at a machine shop, looked brand new when they were done with it. __________________ -Jeff | | | 07-30-2009, 11:19 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | I am debating buying a new LTW flywheel or using the one from my 325is and having it re-surfaced... How much weight do you figure was removed after machining? Also, when you did your tranny swap, which tranny did you use? My ti has the Getrag 250, I assume the 325is has the same or similar... going to check it soon... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Needs to be done with very very precise tools, I had never used the machine shop before..didn't want to take a chance. 325i and ti have same manual tranny, getrag 250. That is what I used. __________________ -Jeff | | | 07-30-2009, 11:28 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | I suspected as much about the trannys... I am just going to keep the ti's tranny as it has fewer miles than the 325is. A local autoX friend recommended a LTW flywheel and an M5 clutch, said it's lightning fast for shifts and a very light touch. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
