- What modifications did you have to do?
- Have you had any issues with this combination?
- Misc. Notes
If you have information you'd like to contribute, send it to me via a PM or post it in the "discussion" thread. I'll be adding listings as I get them. Thanks! | Tutorial Tools | | | | | | | | Submitted by cooljess76 1. What type of transmission? (auto/manual, Getrag, ZF, etc.) Manual ZF 2. Drive shaft came from what year & model car? '98 M3 manual front section, '97 318ti manual rear section 3. Diff. ratio 3.46LSD 4. Diff. case size Medium 5. Diff. was taken from what year & model car? E24 (year unknown) 6. What type of diff. cover? E30 7. Diff. cover was taken from what year & model car? '89 325i 8. Output flanges were from what year & model car? '89 325i 9. Half-shafts were taken from what year & model car? '89 325i 10. What modifications did you have to do? Shimmed ABS sensors 2.25mm 11. Have you had any issues with this combination? Car hasn't been driven since the install Misc. Notes: '97 318ti sport w/S52 swap. Halfshafts rebuilt with new inner/outer CV boots, dust caps, snap rings, boot clamps, grease, flange bolts, green loctite(spline), blue loctite(bolts), hub nuts and hub nut retaining rings. Differential filled with Mobil1 75w-90LS(limited slip additive). Replaced differential cover paper gasket. ABS shims were made from a modified 5/8" opening flat washer. Also used an E30 speed sensor. Install went smoothly. Differential fit with plenty of room to spare, no modifying chassis to clear differential cover bolts was necessary. E30 325i w/ABS halfshafts fit perfectly, no forcing halfshafts onto flanges was necessary. **Earlier year 318ti's will require chassis modification to clear the top differential cover bolts. This is usually done with a hammer. However, one member actually drilled the top two bolt holes on the cover to facilitate countersunk allen head bolts. ***Note, to prevent damage to your ABS sensors, be sure to loosen/remove sensors prior to inserting the halfshaft spline through the hub. Once the halfshafts are installed/torqued, then you can make/install the ABS shims. | | | Submitted by davidl 1. What type of transmission? (auto/manual, Getrag, ZF, etc.) Manual ZF? 2. What modifications did you have to do? Put the inner cv joints on the ti halfshafts 11. Have you had any issues with this combination? None | | | Submitted by Hotredti 1. What type of transmission? (auto/manual, Getrag, ZF, etc.) Stock automatic for now, but there's an S50 on an engine stand over in the corner, and a ZF 5spd in storage. 2. Drive shaft came from what year & model car? Stock 4 cylinder auto. 3. Diff. ratio? 4.10:1 4. Diff. case size? Medium 5. Diff. was taken from what year & model car? 1989 M3 6. What type of diff. cover? E30 M3 7. Diff. cover was taken from what year & model car? 1989 8. Output flanges were from what year & model car? 1995 318ti. With the inner metal flanges removed to match E30 M3 setup. If you don't remove these (1 on each side) they will destroy your inner seal. Shorter length isn't a problem with stock power as the splines have plenty engagement into planetary gears. 9. Half-shafts were taken from what year & model car? 1995 318ti. 10. What modifications did you have to do? Had to hammer the unibody structural brace above and behind where the differential's upper bolts and vent tube would make contact. Only had to move it rearward about 1/2". Also did a little cosmetic molding to it to maintain a somewhat stock look. The later years which saw the 323ti do not need this done. 11. Have you had any issues with this combination? 12. Misc. What modifications did you have to do? None 11. Have you had any issues with this combination? No, besides getting brand new bolts (heated bolts break easily with lots of power!) 12. Misc. Notes: Install both sides simultaneously while raising the diff in or else it will be a very very tricky fit. | Last edited by roadrash; 01-31-2010 at 08:44 PM.. | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Tutorial: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Tutorial Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is On | | | |
