Dies, sometimes won't start OK, 96ti Active 5-speed DASC Brospeed exhaust Stock software -- not chipped 240,000 miles A couple months ago, after it's annual tune up at Schneller Motorports, ace tuners who have been maintaining it for 7-8 years or so, the car started do a sputter or hesitation, then it would run for a minute or two and then die. Felt like running out of gas. At the tune up, the coil was replaced, and they noticed a couple of "rodent-chewed wires" that were also replaced. Did it when cold a couple times and when warm several times. An odd smell was noticable, not the rotten eggs of the cat with a snoot full of rich vapor from WFO acceleration, but something unusual. Cranked over fine, but no spark / no start. Car would restart after "resting" some period of time (usually when being offloaded from the flatbed at the garage.) Appeared not be getting either spark or gas. No diag codes at all. First mechanic (not Schneller) diagnosed and replaced the crank position sensor. No change. Schneller first thought it was the fuel pump. Replaced that. No joy. Next suspect was the computer. Swapped out with one from an automatic, it seemed to run OK, but displayed a constant check-engine light. Found and tried a replacement from a 5-speed, and the problem recurred. Since then, after a few more failures, tows, and work, they determined that while "failed," the fuel was flowing, but spark was not. The cam sensor was replaced, crank position sensor was checked again, and the ignition switch was replaced. Ran fine for 3 days / 200 miles. Died, and won't restart. Any thoughts from the collective mind? Thanks in advance! Art |
