Default Remove center vent???

How do I take the center vent off? Taking dash out and need to fix the vent. Thanks

2 tabs on the bottom of the vent and 2 opposite of it on top. Push bottom ones upwards and it should start to release.

remove the radio, then do as ^ said.

alot of guys say just pull it out.....but that's not the right way to do it....even if it would work

He had the radio and climate control panel off already when he posted this. He just started a second thread.

It is the easiest thing to do on a 1998 BMW 318 ti at least.
- Use a plastic Prying Tool to dislodge the lower part of the vent frame, then
- Press down the upper part of the vent frame, and
- pull it out

Thats it, the structure is the simplest of structures. The problem with the design is that it does not have a clicking mechanism to keep the open (scroll upward) position in place. If you turn it (scroll) downward you will notice what I mean (it sort of click in place). This doesn't happen when you scroll it to the open position.

All this said; I dislodge the center vent and Epoxy the vent in the open position from the inside. Problem solved, why would anyone want to shut it anyways? One either need cool air or hot air.
