Default Hello, just an intro

Hi there - just wanted to introduce myself on the forum and say hello.

My name is Greg, I live in Colorado and run an old 1979 E21. I know, it isn't a 318Ti, but I am old school. Anyway, I work for Snow Performance and we manufacture and sell water-methanol injection kits, so if anyone has any questions about those, feel free to ask.

It is a kit that injects water-methanol into your engine.

Heh, seriously, that's what it is. What it does is cool the intake temps 60-100 degF and bump the octane in the chamber to about 116. Allows for more timing, more boost, etc etc. I can go into a lot more detail, and there are different benefits for Diesels, but that is the thumbnail version.

Not necessarily. Lots of naturally aspirated engines use it, but the forced induction applications do show the largest gains. With some high compression engines and aggressive tuning, it can be just as applicable for NA engines.

SNOW PERFORMANCE?? I was just talking about you guys the other day with some of my Mustang buddies (Supercharged).

I hear you guys are the top dogs in the injection world. Good to see you on the forum.

Sad story (get tissues) - I sprayed alcohol injection (coolingmist) before a Downing Atlanta supercharger. I stripped the epoxy coating off the rotors, so now I make 3psi less boost.

Moral of the story? Injection is awesome, but do it AFTER the supercharger and use a high quality kit like the ones SNOW PERFORMANCE sells!.

http://www.snowperformance.net/ - Shameless free plug for a great setup!!

BTW - The Eaton m62 goes out to superchargertech.com next week for a full rebuild with teflon coating. w00t!

Sucks to hear about your Eaton - but that has nothing to do with the alky going through there. Trust me, I have talked to the blower mfrs, etc etc.

The Ford Lightenings had one year of production that the coating stripped off. Made no difference if they used alky/meth/water injection or not. The following year the coating was changed and had ZERO issues. There are NO problems with sprying it through the blower on a positive displacement sueprcharger. Don't do it on a centrifugal, though. Used to work for a Rotrex distributor as well. As I understand it, it was about one year production of Eatons that were afflicted with the bad coating. Ask around if anyone else with that Downing kit had rotor coating problems.

I am in Colorado Springs. Will be replacing wheel cylinders, shoes, brake hoses, pads & rotors tonight and tomorrow hopefully. IF I have time I will throw on the new swaybars and springs.

interesting. do you know what the difference in the coatings was? perhaps after your rebuild you'll still be able to use the alc injection Dusten.

Can you run this in conjunction with NO2?

No, I don't know the specifics, and it is hard to pull anything out of Eaton, IMO. There was a change, and it was directly in regards to the coatings coming off. Sorry I don't know more than that.

Absolutely. A lot of the domestic guys run it with N2O because it allows them to use a, say, 250hp shot with full timing, or no timing retard, rather.

Thanks to the Pontiac forums, I do have a bit of info on the rotors and coatings. It is a popular misconception that Eaton rotors have a teflon coating, they don't. Some of the rotors are bare metal and some have an epoxy coating and some of the new Eatons have an APC coating that is supposed to be really tough. Anyways, the epoxy coating that was on my rotors is not compatible with alcohol, on top of that, the bearings inside my supercharger are in a light gease bath, never intended to see liquids. The alcohol I used (denatured alcohol) is basically a paint stripper, the epoxy didn't hold up to the alcohol and I'm sure my bearing are probably shot because the alcohol washed the grease out of them.

I'm sending my SC down to superchargertech to get rebuilt next week. They are replacing all bearing and installing new rotors too.

Lesson learned. Methanol injection is much safer, but I would not recommend spraying BEFORE the supercharger. Some Eatons are NOT manufactured to see an kind of fluid. Magnuson will back this up.

Curious - if the bearings in your supercharger aren't sealed, wouldn't you have boost leak out from bearings supporting the shaft? Air can travel through much smaller passages than liquids, I believe.

I am curious what coatings they use on cars where the carburetors are mounted before the superchargers.
