Default Car wont start, Fuse Promblem?

So I posted here a couple of days ago on a radiator change for 1998 318ti. It was really easy and I just needed a couple of metric sockets (I believe it was a 10 and 8) and a screw driver. No special tools required.

After installing I went to give the car a jump. I made a mistake in placing the jumper cables on both batteries plus and negatives(not grounding the negative on one car) and I think I blew a fuse. Not sure though I have to go back and change the car.

I tried starting the car after-wards and the engine like freezes up and does a loud clicking/cracking sound. It doesnt even want to turn over anymore(it did fine before). Do you guys think its the fuse or me jumping the car had nothing to do with this. What kind of fuse would I need.

I just hope the car hasn't blown a valve/cylinder or something when it was ran hot.

I have to go back to the car, its in the middle of nowhere, and mess with it. What do you guys suggest I bring?

BTW just put a new starter in before all this so I know that it doesnt need a new starter.

Im confused from your post but....

How long was the engine ran while hot?

Did you check the fuse box for a blown fuse?

It wasnt ran hot for a long time, I drove it in like 10 min periods and made sure I stopped before it ran to hot.

I have not checked the fuse box. I have to go back and inspect it. What type of fuses should I bring with me. The car is in the middle of nowhere so I am trying to bring everything with me that I may need for a simple fix.

If the car was ran too hot is this a symptom, this locking/clicking sound?

The "locking/clicking sound" sounds like it still needs a jump. Check the lights, see if they come on, are dim, etc. If dim, retry jumping it, the correct way. If manual, roll start in 2nd if possible. As far as fuses go, id just take a few different amps with me, otherwise, pull good fuses from non engine running slots, then when you get home, replace.

Yeah lights come one fine but I was getting the battery light on when trying to start it before jumping. I am going to the store to get some fuses, what amps should I get, like 20? Its an automatic btw.

I will check it out and post back what has happened.

Get 2-3 each of 5, 10, 15, and 20 amp fuses. It's always good to have spare fuses.

That wasn't meant to be an all-inclusive list of the fuses that the 318ti uses, it's just a generic suggestion. There might be other amperages that would be useful.
