Default How Should I Fix This Rust? PICS!

Posted this on bf.c too.

This spring I noticed my first bit of rust on the car. How do you guys suggest I fix this? My car is at the point (old enough) that I'm more concerned with stopping the rust, over making an absoultely flawless paint repair.

It's in a terrible location. I think I might have to take the windshield off to access all of it... :mad Although it's possible that I could access the problem if I can get the top windshield trim strip off. Anyone ever do that? I think it'll be destroyed in the process though.

My initial plan is:
1. Sand clean to bare metal
2. Rust neutralizer
3. Primer
4. Paint
5. Clearcoat

3 angles of the same spot...;.

Whatever you do dont paint it yourself! You can probably get the rust off yourself pretty easily with a dremel. That rust spot is pretty small and you cand grind it down in no time (literally a couple of seconds). I would just hit it with a sandpaper attachment. After that you should have it painted by a pro. Its hard to match things just right anywhere on a car but the roof and hood are the worst because of fading from the sun. A spot that small shouldnt cost too much to paint. Just remeber that no matter how good you think you are you will mess things up if you try to paint it yourself.

Yeah that's what I was thinking; take it to a pro. But, it's so small, and I don't really care anymore on how good/perfect it looks. As long as the rust is neutrailzed, I'm happy

POR15.

If you take your time with it (lots of thin coats, wet sand, polish/buff/wax) then it won't look too bad.

You can get the rust off yourself down to the bare metal with no problems. Thats the easy part, anyone can do that even if they have no experience. But trust me on this, get it painted by a pro. Ive painted stuff before and when Ive only painted one spot it looked like crap. Just spend the extra cash to have it done right. For a spot that small you could even get the touch up paint kit from BMW and have the body shop use that to cut costs.
