I suspect that the sedans is slightly longer, as the engine bay battery post sits up higher in a sedan as opposed to a coupe... probably why Marv and I are coming up a little bit short in the cable area...

[giggle] Sorry... I couldn't stop myself.

To answer Jean's question (and get back on topic)...

Based on this site, our cars need a battery with a CCA rating of 232.

I have a coupe cable as well. Hey, I'm a grow-er not a show-er
Perhaps the sedan cable would be more suitable for the battery relocate mod.

Hopefully this will be my last off-topic contribution here, but a couple of my favorite cliche' lines are applicable here. So, directed at nobody in particular, I'll submit...
1) That's what she said.
2) Ya know, I heard that about you.

To hopefully get back on-topic... does anybody know if that "232 CCA" figure is anywhere close to being correct?

The Bosch Miata battery is rated for 330-400 CCA's... the smaller Odyssey/dynabatt batteries are rated for 200-220 cca's.

I think the quoted 232 CCA's number is low... I would guess that that would be the minimum required, but a higher number is preferred.

funny you mention that, a guy with a Civic on a local forum just did that, his proportioning valve and most of his brake lines coming off the master cylinder are behind the dash and all his wiring is run inside the frame rails and behind the fenders, it actually looks really nice

this is how mine turned out. couldn't hide the cable to all the way yet because of the power for the amp. but will tuck it away on my next day off.

Local AZ is quoting me $94 for a "Miata" battery. I made up a year since I wasn't sure what year would be used for this project.

It fit alright but my positive cable is short for some reason and I don't want to take the passenger interior apart today since its pouring like crazy. The one I bought from my Autozone here is a bit more snug though, no biggy, still better than my massive battery. We'll see how this one holds up.

I also weighed the car today with the stock M42 motor;

Front wheels only on the scale: 1460 lbs
Rear wheels only on the scale: 1300 lbs
whole car on the scale: 2780 lbs

(I account for the 20 extra lbs from stock weight due to the heavier Vader seats...)
Had an opportunity to do a quick weigh on the car, post swap -

2900 lbs w/ 1/2 tank of gas... So 120 lbs = 2 extra cylinders..
