Car Will not stay running

I have 1995 318ti. Early today it started and drove ok but after I got it washed I've been having trouble with it staying started. It will turn over and start but it will turn off if I don't keep giving it gas. Where is the first place I should look? I'm looking to sell the car for $1500 to $2000. The car needs a little tlc but mechanically its good to go. Thanks

when you washed it, did you spray the engine with the hose? that gets water in the electrical connections and makes the car run like crap, if it even runs at all
