So I want to get H&R race springs with the Bilstein sport shocks and struts. I have looked on a few websites for a good price. I was wondering if anyone knew where to get them for a reasonable price. Also is there anything else I should buy? since I am going to have the suspension tore down. Thanks for your help. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 11-25-2009, 11:09 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I remember Bilstein was doing a group buy on their shocks a while ago, I went ahead and compared the GB price to Bavauto's normal price for the same shocks and it was only a few dollars more I'd say Bavauto for the shocks and Bimmerworld for the springs | | | 11-26-2009, 08:09 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | Thanks man. So like 600 for the entire set. Not bad because bimmerworld has the set for 659. Bimmerworld also has H&R race springs for 245 for the set. Not bad at all. I am going to search around for maybe a better price on the shocks but it looks like I am going to have to spend about 850 for the setup. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 11-26-2009, 08:54 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | I am one of the few who believe bilsteins are not the best choice for these cars. Bilstein never got the shock rates right on their units and they just ride too rough. Go with Koni Single Adjustables if you can afford it. __________________ -Jeff | | | 11-26-2009, 09:28 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | I will look into them. It's the the set up that some people don't like. The sport shocks and HD shocks have the same dampening curves. I have dyno plots to prove it. The difference is that the sport shocks have a shortened body to allow for similar travel while being used with lowering springs. The stock Bilstein valving has great low speed valving (the type that helps control body roll) but their high speep valving (bumps) is not as good as Koni. The advantage to the Bilsteins is that they are a little bit cheaper and you don't have to re-use stock housings like you do for the Koni inserts... Too each their own.. The H&R spring Bilstein sport combo is a great budget friendly set up but if you're going for performance spend the extra money and go the Koni/ground control sleeve route... Sorry, but Just to nit-pick... there's no "dampening" when dealing with oscillatory motion, just "damping" | | | 12-03-2009, 08:38 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Columbia MD Posts: 215 | BavAuto occasionally puts their Bilsteins on sale. In May I got a full set of HDs for about $400ish with free shipping ($150 front/$50 rear), and the Sports were the same price (as they are essentially the same, except for length). If you're patient, you may be able to save some money. They make for a firm, aggressive feeling ride. The handling is great, but whether or not they are too rough is a matter of personal taste. They do not feel like OEM dampers. __________________ *Except 318ti '97 318ti M-Sport '95 M3 BMWCCA | | | 12-03-2009, 09:20 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | TCKline has Konis 30% off. http://www.tcklineracing.com/ I have an extra set of H&R springs for sale if you need them.
