Default Cruise control failure

My cruise control is intermittent, and just stopped working today. It's failed once before a month ago and then started working again. Any common problem parts here or things to check? Is it likely a computer/electrical issue or mechanical? Thanks.

I installed C.C. last year, and got it coded at the dealership (so they say). The problem is, it still doesn't work. The mechanic said the computer in the gauge cluster is not getting the speed sensor signal. I just need to get that one signal wire figured out, and it all should work.

Do you remember wiring anything to the rear of the cluster?

What is not working? Like is the CC not engaging, or is it not disengaging? If its not disengaging, then its probably your brake light switch.

If its not engaging, then I have no idea, sorry.

yes i do no where that one is ! on the cc harness there should be a black with white stripe wire or it may be a different color as long as you no that its your speed signal. but what you need to find is another black/white wire which will be to the left of the brake pedal in the corner, in a huge bundle of wires.. it may scare you because you may find more than one but they all gointo one circuit or w.e. its called but just splice them together and you will be all set

and as far as wireing to the rear i only no that the older bmw do that you have a 318ti right?

let me no if it doesnt make sense haha

I have a 1998 318ti. I just figured wiring to the rear connector of the cluster is easier than finding that wire in the nest of wires. I did install a factory new C.C. harness. Almost not in the mood to tear it all apart and find that wire. I also wired up OBC, but that worked out fine. My Bentley manual does show the sensor wire coming from and or going to the harness of the gauge cluster.

I'll poke around this weekend, and get back with you.

Thanks
Eric
