Default LED interior bulbs

Regarding LED bulbs for the interior cabin and instrument cluster - are they just plug and play? Need some education regarding LED bulbs.

In an earlier thread, someone had to use resistors and solder them in. I think that was for blue led lights. Also another problem I read about led bulbs was that the map dome lights need reverse polarity bulbs. Is this correct?

I'm looking to replace my interior lights and the instrument cluster with LED bulbs with the simplest steps without soldering anything. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Be very careful, the light cannot be visible from outside the car, I watched some tuner guys get slapped outside a event this weekend with the blue LED washer nibs.

Sounded like they got hit for 700 bucks. "Impersonating a police vehicle."

No way to get around soldering, and unless you're replacing LED's with LED's, you'll need to use resistors. Otherwise you'll just burn out the LED's with too much power. Some of the interior lights are LED from the factory. The window switches for example, I believe are LED as are the A/C, defrost and door lock buttons. Yes LED's have a polarity. If you install them backwards you'll get nothing. Google "LED diagram" "LED wiring" or "LED polarity" and you'll find your answers.

Those lights were already outside the car.

As VW gets away with their dash lights in blue.. I am pretty sure you could too.

I HAVE seen replacement lamps that are LED for the maplights. Those are plug and play

I don't think you'll get in trouble for that, I know that my neons in the interior are legal, as long as they aren't outside the car you're fine

In the uk the law is...

No white light showing from the rear of the vehicle except for when reversing.
No red lights showing from the front of the vehice whatsoever.
No blue light visible from any part of the vehicle unless it is an ambulance or police vehicle..
No green lights showing unless it is a DOCTOR vehicle.

All other colours are debatable as they can say it is distracing to other drivers.
Bit crap really as my mate had purple neons and got nicked for it :'(

i know the post is old, but for the future, Ebay and other sites have plug and play LED bulbs for under the dash and inside the car. they basically use the same bulbs, and put LEDs in them.
