Anyone know how to clean up the valve cover and intake manifold (yellowing). | | | 01-03-2016, 01:43 AM | #167 | Member Join Date: Jan 2015 Location: Maine Posts: 55 | So in about 3 hours time today I removed my headliner in my 97 avus blau ti and re covered it. It desperately needed help the original fabric was a mess. I bought 3 and half yards of the grey foam backed headliner material at a Joanns Fabric location nearby. It was 15 bucks a yard. I also picked up two cans of the pictured adhesive for 20 bucks a pop. So with tax right under $100 for materials. The headliner really only needs two yards of material but I wanted extra. The hardest part was removal of the headliner board and the moonroof cassette. The actual process of putting on the fabric was easy. I think it came out good for being an idiot at fabric stuff as my girlfriend so lovingly puts it. If I can do it you guys can. Did you take it out from the hatch? Looking to recover mine as well (next project on the bucket list hehe). | | | 01-03-2016, 04:28 AM | #169 | Member Join Date: Jan 2015 Location: Maine Posts: 55 | Quote: Originally Posted by NYBmw96ti Looks great mobius, How hard was it to remove from the car? Removal of all the lights, handles, etc takes longer than pulling it out. I didn't completely remove the rear pillar panels either just broke free the top part of them. I pulled it out through the hatch. It shouldn't go back in badly either. The other thing that took a little bit of time and patience was getting the moonroof shuttle out to recover that. If you don't have to do that removal of the board carefully and easily takes an hour tops. (I go very slow). Removal of the old liner and glue using a cheap dish brush was another 30 minutes or so. Then laying out, cutting, gluing, and trimming the new fabric was another 45 minutes. I could do it in less time now that I have a better idea. There was a couple YouTube videos I watched to get an idea of some of the tricks pros use. Pretty easy stuff. The glue is really the most important piece. You don't want to cheap on it at all unless you want to do it over and waste fabric. The fabric was cheaper than the glue I used but I think it'll stand up to a good amount of use and time. (atleast the nasty industrial smell tells me that so far). I'll report in how it holds up. What a pain in the ass for such a little piece! Since I was waiting for parts I did the fogged airbox mod Also been trying to finish my full audio rehaul. So sick of working on it lately, I just want everything to be finish... But as we all know that'll never ever happen lol Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk __________________ Blitzing backroads on the shores of Lake Superior. | | | 01-09-2016, 02:26 AM | #175 | Member Join Date: Aug 2015 Location: Arizona Posts: 99 | Via my Instagram, picked up some new shoes for the ti. Yes they've been done to death on our chassis, but I don't care. By far my favorite OEM BMW wheel ever made. So stoked to finally have a real nice set of my own. | | | 01-09-2016, 04:38 AM | #176 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2013 Location: Massapequa New York Posts: 113 | ^^^^ working on a set myself | | | 01-09-2016, 06:28 AM | #177 | Member Join Date: Aug 2015 Location: Arizona Posts: 99 | I dig the BBS center caps. This guy. I couldn't just replace it, had to build my own retaining bracket for it so it doesn't happen again. Good thing I've done 20-30 of these for customers, got her done in about an hour. | | | 01-10-2016, 02:14 AM | #180 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: SF Bay Area Posts: 315 | Quote: Originally Posted by andakn Guess who got to pull the side and front of the dash to do a heater cable repair. I can't use the fix from BMW as the top portion that they drill the hole and run the screw through is broken off on mine. __________________ 01 740iS Cosmos Black 97 318ti Boston Green 99 318ti Titanium Silver 13 X5 3.5XDrive Cosmos Black 97 318ti Alpine White (gone but not forgotten) 88 325iC Schwartz Black (sold) 97 740iL Schwartz Black (sold) 84 633csi Schwartz Black (sold) 96 318ti Alaska Blue (sold) 08 X5 4.8i Titanium Silver (sold) | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
