I only have ~200 dollars now, so obviously I won't start tomorrow. My dad has a 325is and loves working on cars and would really enjoy helping me do the swap. Some questions about finances: How often do wrecked M3s come up on Craigslist and what is their average price? How much money could I get out of the old car by selling parts on Ebay? Could I get any money for the old 318ti engine? And how long do you think it would take for me to make up enough money for the whole procedure (I don't have a job now, but will begin working fast food right before the summer starts). Any general tips appreciated; I have always thought this would be fun. | | | 02-13-2009, 07:53 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Central Florida Posts: 678 | look on the FS thread, J!m has one named OBD II swap, I suggest buying his book as it will list every part needed for the process, and will guide you on what to do for the entire process as well. Rough estimate of money for an M3 engine swap about $5,000, this is if it's an 96'+ (OBD II), and much less for a 328 engine... I guess it would depend on your cars year, 95 (OBD I) or 96-99 (OBD II), you have to get an engine that is of the same year or newer in order to pass emissions tests and register the vehicle. I see that you have a 95' so the amount of money would be less than 5k... __________________ 2LT Rodriguez CA ARNG TURBO 96' Sport, Alaska Blue, Auto Custom JohnBoy Turbo, Midnight-Tunning Software, HKS BOV, e-Pod Gauge Pod, BavAuto Springs, Bilstein Sport, e30 3.73 LSD, Depo P36, Apexcone 55w HID, OEM Spoiler, M3 Lip, M3 Mesh Grill, Crossdrilled Rear Rotors, M3 Front Brakes, Sparco 3 point Harness, Euro M3 Wheel, K&N cone, Clear Corner/Sides/Tails, M3 Center Console & Arm-rest, M3 Red Cluster Needles, M3 Mirrors & Side Skirts, RD Exhaust, DS-1 wheels!... | | | 02-15-2009, 08:06 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | You are in luck as I believe NC is one of the few states that permit the public to bid/buy salvage auction vehicles. This would be a more plentiful source of cars than CL. Step 1 is to save your money. Marv17 just scored a whole wreck for $2500 but that is a rarity. Usually engines alone are that much. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 03-09-2009, 04:45 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Dallas, TX Posts: 1 | I'm somewhat new on here but been posting on e90post for awhile.
