M50 Vano vs Non-Vanos

After tearing my M50 vanos apart I found the head to be crack, so I bought a new head but by mistake bought a non-vanos head. What need to be changed over so I can run the non-vanos head. If I read everything correctly it would be just the ECU. Or does the wiring harness have to be changed over?

Where was the crack in the head? I had mine repaired but it was superficial damage.



You know the casting is the same between a NV and a V head correct? The cams are differant thou that's all, you could swap over the valves and call it a day.


NV springs are beefier than V springs as well.

If you just need the casting, check out the junkyard in Rosemount. They have two 5 series BMWs with non-vanos M50 engines. The heads are probably good, and they only charge $35 for any head.

You might want to stay away from the red 5 series, I kinda beat the crap out of it to get my AC bracket off.

Note: If anyone else is wondering, the intakes were gone off of both of them.

Oil pan? from the the 5er is worth about 150 with the oil pickup for E30 swap guys. They sell on ebay fairly easy.
