No idea about 528 motor. Are they different than 328 motors? My conversion used the driveshaft from the 328 donor. Easy on the CAPS. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 11-25-2007, 11:42 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Scandia, MN Posts: 215 | 1) Caps Lock 2) You will need a 6 cylinder wiring harness, preferably the harness that was attached to the engine. 3) Why not use the stock ti trans? You won't have to mess with drive shaft and consequential differential issues. 4)Most everything should bolt right up. 5) No emissions laws in Minnesota, so I'm no help there | | | 11-26-2007, 12:04 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | 1) +1 2) +1 3) +1 for using the ti transmission. If you dont and use the 2.8 ZF transmission, you will need a driveshaft from an e36 due to the compatibility of the diff. Your best bet is to go with the ti transmission or a 325 tranny and driveshaft, then hook that up to your rear end. 4) Youre on your own out there, check with other people in your area whether they were able to pass emissions with a swapped vehicle. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 11-26-2007, 12:15 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: chicago Posts: 172 | what are the differences (if any) between the engines in the 3 and 5 series? i would think it would be a small headache. if you bought the engine and tranny already, as long as you get a good matching harness and plenty of time to sort it all out, sounds do-able. maybe you could try asking on a different (ahem) forum that caters to a wider bmw model base. just copy & paste the original post | | | 11-26-2007, 02:52 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: New York Posts: 70 | 1) Caps lock is cruise control for cool... | | | 11-27-2007, 03:09 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: LONG ISLAND Posts: 13 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma 1) +1 2) +1 3) +1 for using the ti transmission. I asked a few people from around me who does swaps, they told me to get a 328 harness and make sure every think get hooked up all o2s,evap, every thing then i should have no problems.. or just wire it up obd1 an go OT to insure-registor thanks 4 the info | | | 11-27-2007, 03:48 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Theres nothing wrong with the ti driveshaft or tranny. The rear end, itll hold up, for how long, whos to tell. All in all, you can use the tranny and driveshaft without problems. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 11-29-2007, 09:11 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | Quote: Originally Posted by Phamster | +10 that thread helped me realize how simple the swap actual can be __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 11-29-2007, 10:01 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Scandia, MN Posts: 215 | Quote: Originally Posted by M.FR3SH I didnt want to use the ti tranny-driveshaft-rear because i heard they wouldnt hold up. The differential is the weakest link. E30 325 diffs and half-shafts are a direct bolt-in and are more than adequate for 2.8l power. If you want the fewest problems, go to OBD I. M50's are everywhere, performance mods are plentiful, no dealership involvement is required. Either way, prepare for a Check Engine light fest. I pulled the bulb because I didn't want to see it, but mostly because I don't care. Good luck with the swap, dude! | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
