New R32 or 2004 model? Either way, that is awesome.

Sweet The one series is the only new BMW I think I'd more or less like. Does it still have a dipstick?

I read in the May issue of Roundel that at least the new M3 has two reservoirs for oil and basically no central area where a dipstick could be used for an accurate reading, hence, the electronic dipstick. It still sucks, but at least there is a reason for it.

Hmmmm ... I guess if there's a reason, but electronics can fail (in fact, that's mostly what's failed on my car over the 238k miles I've had it ... sensors). A dipstick doesn't fail.

Sure, I'd like to see the electronic "dipstick." I would have to say, more people would likely be inclined to check the electronic one than the real one under the hood (ie, people are generally quite lazy).

I've heard that the oil level sensors have been going bad, and maybe they have a reason for the electronic dipstick but what's the reason for the dual oil reservoirs?

Multiple oil pumps and they can separate the oil between them to avoid any oil starvation during hard cornering to exactly control the amount of oil flowing into the engine. The new M3 can actually control the amount of pressure and the flow of oil between the two sumps with an oil "reflow" pump, as well as precisely control the amount of oil going into the motor through the pumps.

If any of those oil pumps don't have the right amount of oil, a warning will go off. So in the case of the M3, a single sensor going out will not cause a problem. But I hate it for anybody that wants one of those cars after the warranty runs out.
