Default Easy Method for Removing Water Pump

I had a stubborn water pump to remove from my 1997 Z3. I read nightmare after nightmare of difficult attempts to remove it.

This is what I did and it came out sooo easy.

First step is to use a tool like a large pipe wrench to rotate the pump to eliminate any proximity bonding. There is enough play to accomplish this. http://www.318ti.org/forum/attachmen...1&d=1394814424

Second is to purchase two #6 bolts the same size as the original bolts holding the pump to the block only longer. ACE hardware has a good bolt selection.http://www.318ti.org/forum/attachmen...1&d=1394814424

Screw the two bolts into the BMW threaded holes designed for the pump removal.

Lightly tap around the metal mounting plate for the pulley. Keep tapping lightly around the perimeter while snugging up the two bolts you threaded in. A small ballpeen hammer is fine.

The pump will slide out while you are consistently tapping and tightening the bolts. This is a trick that has been around for decades.
