I love that fact, until I'm somewhere that doesn't have 89 octane and I'm forced to put 91 in.

Is there a reason this thread isn't stickyd?

Even at BimmerFest 2012, us e36/5 owners still standout as a rare and special breed...

Ti's are still considered the runt of the litter, as far as e36's are concerned, but more and more people are begrudgingly admitting how much fun they are, something we've all known since we first drove one..

While I know these were referred to as E36/5s, I don't know why... What's the relevance of the "/5"?

Thanks!

Because these cars are so special it deserves the extra half!

Actually if memory suits me it is due to how our cars are the same A pillar forward with the sedans but the rest being unique to the Ti. Guess it was a way to distinguish us when it came to ordering parts etc..
If anyone else can add please do.

When the nice foreign born guy at the dry cleaners askes

"Do you like red car?"

I say "yes, Love it, just pick it up a few months ago"

He says "oh, it's a 2012"

I laugh.

I believe this was done to sort of distinguish the ti from other E36 models, as the ti was part E30, part E36, similar to the Z3 (E36/7; E36/8).

These days its like the E90/E91/E92/E93... same damn car really. But back then they did it that (36/5) way. Though the Ti and Z3 did have the rear suspension of an E30 so calling it a complete E36 would be disingenuous

When you make excuses to use the ti instead of your X-3...

By the way, the rear suspension is longer on the Z-3, I tried to put a Z-3 on my old White ti and it sets the wheel out another 1" to 2". So if you wanted a wider track in the rear, just put on the Z-3 suspension and flair the rear wheel wells ... It pissed me off when I went to set the car down with the Z-3 suspension is when I noticed it, causing me to have to return the suspension and get a ti rear suspension arm.

You know you have a Ti when even though you have been working on cars for many years you have to find out what words like guibo and squib mean.

You know you are driving a ti when you pay more attention to the temperature gauge than the tachometer.

You know you are driving a ti when your wife complains about the UPS man knocking on the door delivering more parts. (Love you Kitty!)
