Default Leaving the spare tire at home

I have just given my car a thorough cleaning, including taking out the spare from its nest under the rear trunk. After I had got all the mud off and got everything nice and clean, I noticed the weight of the spare. As I use my car pretty much only for commuting, and I have one of those emergency tire foam cans in the trunk, I wondered about keeping the spare at home, and only fitting it if I have a longer journey. I re-fitted the cover, to keep the trunk water-tight.
Anybody else leave their spare at home?

I do the same thing. I only grab the spare if I'm going out of town, and then I just through it in the back, not under the car. Invest in a AAA membership and ditch the can of tire foam. Tire foam is nasty and you'll piss off the tire guy like nobodies business. That stuff gets everywhere and it's crazy sticky.

I took my spare tire out a long time ago and covered the hole.

so you didn't even fit the tire cover that is normally visible under the rear fender? How did you seal the hole, or at least make it weather proof?

thanks.

My Ti has not had a spare since I bought it. I bought one of those M-Mobility kits but have thankfully never had to use it

never carried the spare in the 1997, still got it under the Club..but that's just cause I have not dropped it yet. on the 1997 I cut the carrier down to just fill the hole and drove like that. No problems I though since I had run-flats..but then the problem with the OE Z4 run flats came into being.

When the 3.46 goes in, the spare is coming out, and I am going to have to hope the M mobility kit I go on ebay works if I ever need it. OR I remove the carpet in the rear and come up with a way to lug around a 16x7" full size spare...which I sometimes do now(but in a wheel bag) for long haul trips. but I saw a Pan-Mexico Rally BMW(502 V8 saloon), with two full size spare mounted on the rear bulk head of the cabin(where the seats normally are) and I thought that was a cool Idea.
