I'm looking at a '96 ti primarily for use as a track/fun/project car. I know it doesn't have a lot of HP, but fun doesn't have to be in a straight line. I have an '04 vert that is only slightly faster, but still have a blast driving it. The one issue I see with the car is that it has 170k miles. Carfax checks out good other than that. It's a manual so I'm not overly concerned about the transmission life, but I've never bought a car with that many miles before. I'll probably be doing 90% of the work on it myself. The car is very clean with cloth interior. Any thoughts or comments? They're asking $3,500. I'd like to get them lower, but from what I'm hearing, ti's tend to go for more than what kbb or Edmunds reports. | | | 10-04-2005, 04:05 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | I think the engine miles would trouble me less than the 170k miles on everything else- brakes, hoses, fuel lines, differential, etc. Track miles are hard miles- I think you'd be rebuilding a lot. That said it's a great platform to start from at least. Still got lots of street miles left in it though. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 10-06-2005, 12:36 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Allen,TX Posts: 2 | I had seen this car couple of times in my area, and I could say that it looks pretty good. I gave them a call this morning and found out that they want $3500 for this car with 170k on the clock and BLOWN MOTOR!!! From what I undertood, the kid that was driving it, misshifted and bent few valves. So I dont know how they expect to get $3500 for a base Ti with 170k and in non-running condition. Oh, and he also said that these cars usually go for $10-13k in running condition. | | | 10-06-2005, 12:45 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Posts: 2 | Yep. Doesn't mention that in the ad, does it? I looked at it and it has hail damage and every wheel has bent rims to the point that the tires are bulging. One even has a torn sidewall. The car was obviously driven hard. I don't think they have even looked at KBB value. They'll be lucky to get $500 for it. | | | 10-06-2005, 12:52 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Allen,TX Posts: 2 | Quote: Originally Posted by Cavedweller Yep. I personally offered him $1200 for it since I think thats all its worth.
