according to pelican parts its only a problem with models prior to 1994

My mechanic warned me about this. My 98 has the two drain holes in the ECU rubber protector. The other worry though is the battery tray, no holes in it. If the cover were off or misfit, could water fill up the battery tray? Would this kill the battery?
