I got a custom one that's ceramic coated and equal length made up, but it requires the turbo to be low mounted rather than top mounted. Top mounted is what I originally wanted to keep the AC compressor as the car is daily driver. With the new low mount turbo, the turbo will be mounting onto where the AC compressor used to be to stop vibrations and harmonic issues. So exhaust manafold is now mounted, turbo is mounted. Getting a few other things sorted. Car should be ready to the stage where we can turn the key. It will be ready for dyno tuning the week after and iron out any bugs in the system. Looking for AC solutions while we're pushing forward. Just wondering if anyone knows any solutions to replace the factory AC setup. | | | 05-07-2010, 06:10 AM | #78 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by RAiMA Just wondering if anyone knows any solutions to replace the factory AC setup. | roll down your windows and drive faster, with the new turbo you shouldn't have any trouble with the second part | | | 05-07-2010, 06:59 AM | #79 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak roll down your windows and drive faster, with the new turbo you shouldn't have any trouble with the second part | lols. I'll be fine if it doesn't rain, as I use the AC to demist, but once it hits summer in Australia, I'll definitely need the AC. | | | 05-08-2010, 09:46 AM | #80 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | | | | 05-10-2010, 12:33 AM | #81 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | Interesting set up there man. Neat to see the right hand drive. I had the same set up with the coils and all. How's that turbo oil drain working? | | | 05-10-2010, 02:55 AM | #82 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Nice bro I'm still watching this thread. Too bad no A/C. That is a major bag. I got mine in on the I-4 bottom mount. Looks like on yours it's a no go...Too tight and no room. Hope you figure out somethig before your melt in the summer...Johnboy | | | 05-10-2010, 06:45 AM | #83 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Quote: Originally Posted by xxxJohnBoyxxx Nice bro I'm still watching this thread. A friend suggested replacing the power steering pump with an electrical steering pump and placing another AC compressor where the steering pump used to be. Looking into this now. If anyone knows if anyone that's done this, let us know | | | 05-13-2010, 04:58 AM | #84 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Turbo, intercooler, all in. Car fires up. Waiting for new muffler, and fuel pump. Tuned next week and hopefully get the bugs ironed out. Picked probably friday night | | | 05-16-2010, 09:14 AM | #85 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Had a quick word with the mechanic. He reckons we could possible squeeze out 600bhp with the recent changes. I told him I didn't want 600bhp as I wanted the clutch to live lols. I just want the car to drive nicely as a daily driver | | | 05-19-2010, 05:14 PM | #86 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | Nice to know it's on tap if/when 400 gets old! What psi did he reckon you'd have to reach in order to have that 600? | | | 05-19-2010, 11:27 PM | #87 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Avondale, Az Posts: 203 | Any pics of how you fitted the intercooler pipes?? | | | 05-20-2010, 03:02 AM | #88 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | No pics of the pipes yet. Muffler only arrived today. Install tomorrow, but not enough time to tune. Tuning will be early next week then ironing out all the bugs. Will also need to up the boost a lil for more power. The car will be running 14psi when I pick it up. Car will need it's clutched upgraded to support power. Will be good for roughly 280rwkw before it starts to slip excessively under hard use. Will get dyno sheets when I pick up the car. | | | 05-20-2010, 06:55 AM | #89 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Also worked out the capacity on the engine, based on the decompressed pistons, copper gasket thickness, the slight overbore when the engine block was resleaved and it's around 2870cc which makes it a 2.9L turbo engine | | | 05-25-2010, 05:28 AM | #90 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Bad news. Faulty brand new genuine BMW conrod bolt snapped when tuning fuels at 5400-5800 rpms on the dyno. Had no detonation prior to snapping. Caused a major havoc. First time ever we've seen this happen. Sucks cause we did everything right. Was producing 260rwkw / 350 rwhp easily on the dyno. Awaiting for new engine to arrive for prepping again.
