I need to make that red wire go on with the ignition somehow

A little close for comfort. Using good old zip ties for now.

I'll work on finishing it up some time this week. If the weather is nice next Saturday, I'll be getting it inspected. Then maybe off to Mike R.... then track?? hah.. still have the oil burning issue (with the turbo most likely) that I have to deal with as well. We'll see.

It's been a long month.
I went back the next day to hard wire everything, and it wouldn't start. Long story short: I had the coils wired incorrectly, and the cam sensor decided to stop working. (possibly because of the way the coils were wired?) The stock BMW coils do not need a constant 12+ while running a CDI.

This is how I have them set up right now. Autronic SM2 and Autronic CDI:

He'll never read this, but I owe a lot of thanks to my buddy Jay who after 20 hours diagnosing/tinkering on my end, came down and had it running in a little over an hour.

Oh yeah.. I'm still breaking up around 6000 RMPs, so this swap didn't solve my problem!.. but at least it eliminated a possible problem. And in my mind, I now have a better setup!

Diagnosing a non factory turbo car is a pain in the ass, I know from helping my buddies. If you're talking about Jay from New Sweden, I hear a lot of good things about him all the time.

Before this car, I was a ford truck guy. I've never worked on something near advanced as this. Everything on this car has been "learn as i go". Without Jay and Jon (from New Sweden) I would still be banging my head on a wall. They make things seem so simple. Jay has been a big help and I'm lucky/happy to say he's now a bud of mine.

A couple weeks ago I had just got my car running again and was on the road. My copilot had informed me to "take it easy" as we were getting into my car. I said "are you serious?" Then agreed.

So we're about 10 miles in and I've had enough of "taking it easy". I see a C5 or C6 corvette ahead of me getting on to the on-ramp of the highway I was headed towards. So I speed up and get a little close. I follow him around the bend, onto the highway, and through a couple cars of traffic.

I pull along side him. It's a nice warm night so both our windows are down. I look over until I see him look over. I nod, he smiles and takes off. As soon as I notice him go, I go. We probably started at around 55mph. We kept pace with one another until I shifted into 4th. My shift in to 4th is about 90mph. I didn't really lift off the gas so my turbo kept spooling. 4th made him appear in my review mirror rather quickly.

We hit some traffic, it clears, he pulls along side of me this time and tries to speak words to me. It's too loud, and my exit is near. We take off for a couple seconds, but I had to take my exit. That was my first real road race, and was happy to see that my conservative tuned ti was able to beat a vette with 10psi. Can't wait for the Mike R tune, DBB PT6262 and 15-17psi.

So much for taking it easy.

Thanks to Mike Radowski and maximumpsi for sending me exactly what I wanted, and in just a couple days. It's a billet ball bearing PT6262 with the ported shroud cover, and Vband T4 .58 housing.

Overall, I am very pleased with this turbo so far. Its nice when things are brand new (I'm not use to that). This install was one of the easiest projects I've ever done with this car. Literally took me just a couple hours. Granted, I still need to install the charge pipe because the turbo output housing is larger than my old turbo and I don't have the larger coupler on hand.

This is one of the two reasons I'm replacing the turbo. I've been burning oil since the day I got the car (3 years ago!). Second; my exhaust A/R is tighter/smaller, like I wanted.

I had to remove some metal from the hot side in order to make room for the nuts to clamp down. There was not enough clearance for the nut to spin down on the stud.

Sorry, no test results yet. Multiplex teased that he'd be stopping by for some runs one night with his pos. Maybe he could do a little re-New-Sweden-tune?

Silicon boot should be here tomorrow. Fire it up if/when it's not raining.

This turbo kicks ass. Wow.

It is like going from an M3 to a turbo M3 all over again. (granted I just have an M3 ti)

Spool is ridiculous. It's way early for what I'm use to with the old turbo. Like 2500 RPM early, to start. Full boost (only still around 11psi) by about 3.5k.

I'm still practicing/learning how to drive this car. I don't flat shift it, but I try to only let off the throttle a little bit in order to keep boost through the next gear. When you catch it just right (and don't use WOT until 3rd at 90mph) I get to 100mph pretty quick. I can't wait to take this thing to the track. By track I mean the 1/4 mile. Maybe next year I'll be ready for a road course.

I'm running about 11psi right now, and can't imagine what 17psi will feel like. The power definitely pours on more linearly, and if I the waste gate doesn't open until 17psi, I can (still) only imagine the pressure on my back as I accelerate.

I highly recommend this set up to all you 318ti owners!

Funny you say that. We were taking videos for the first time, today. I'll post them up if/when I get them.

Also, unlocked another 1000RPMs. Apparently with a 60-2 trigger wheel and Autronic SM2, you need to solder a 10k resister into the board. I was breaking up at 6k and couldn't rev past that. With the resister soldered in, I'm free to rev to 7000 RPMs now. It feels wonderful! I now have almost 5k range of boosting to play with. That's more than doubled what I've been use to.

Same Looks like a similar setup to mine. Hopefully getting the car this Friday. Will be running 14psi, decompressed, forgies, o-ringed, copper gasket, engine balanced and a few other things. Will need to break my engine in, so I won't be doing any hard runs.

Look forward to your videos

RAiMA, you're going to love that car. Is it yours, or a customers? I'm a believer in breaking a motor in, how it's going to be driven. To each their own I suppose. But either way, don't worry about it! Maybe some day I'll have a built motor. But for now, this way is cheap, and i have a plethora of bottom end 2.8's.. When/if this motor goes, there's another one waiting to go in!

Sorry for the delay with videos. I didn't take them, I'm waiting on a friend to get them posted.

It's my car Getting a car built like this for customers is pretty much close to zero. There's so much involved to build to this level, my mechanic would prefer not to do it. I've got good relations with my mechanic which is the only reason why he took the job. For anyone else, he'd turn it down.

Hope you get your vids up soon Very much looking forward to it
