Default diff going out.....

so the other day i did a cookie int he work parking lot and since then now when i go to stop at slow speeds and push the clutch in (unbind the rear end) it clanks.

and when im slowly turning it will make some popping noises in the rear end as well.

you guys think i broke some spyder gears?

also when i start to go and let the cluth out pretty quick it clanks too.

no loud noises at high speeds just maybe a tiny little whining noise. (but did it since i put the diff in)

i have a e30 6cyl limited slip.

thanks guys

please dont expect it to be the same thing but......? it might be. it could be one of a few things i mentioned in the threads. just check you hacked enough off the floor strengthener, there needs to be enough room for movement between the top of the diff case and the floor pan.

Maybe you just loosened something up with all the sideways power. Have you checked for any loose mounts?

ya all the bolts are tight and the floor support is still in there i am gonna try doing soemthing with that another day.

i think maybe more front bearing because i jacked my car up and tried driving and it still clank. but that could ahve been floor still if it was jerking it enough

true, try resting the diff on a jack, loosening the top 4 bolts and re-tightening them. THERE IS A CORRECT ORDER IN WHICH TO DO THIS, but i cant remember if its the front or the back one's first so do a search. its on here somewhere. someone did a diagram using l's, )'s and 0's type o' thingy. what? i know.

Go out to an empty parking lot and do a slow small circle to the left, and then do the same to the right. If you hear the noise going one way but not the other it could be a wheel bearing.

ok, then some might advise re-tightening them after a week. if its not this then it may be the front bearing, thats what was wrong with mine. the way to tell is to put the car on a stands, get some one to yank on one of the wheels back and forth whilst you listen to the input flange, it will clunk if the bearings fcuked or take it out and turn the input flange by hand. it should be smooth with no delay in engaging.

you may find the noise comes from somewhere else inside the diff if you do those procedures.

sounds silly but have you put the right oil in it?

does it both ways, but only sometimes.

i have checked the bolts weekly.

and when you say yank back and forth do you mean like try pulling the tire off the car(outwards) ors like if you are looking at the wheels left to right?

and i will check that

also how much and where did you get the front bearing?
