From what I've discovered that code is thrown when your alternator is becoming faulty or has been faulty. I replaced my alternator last fall and did the reset trick and I've drove about 50 miles so far and no codes!!! WOOT! If anyone wants/needs to know the reset trick let me know. Even though I'm not sure what all cars it works on, but I do know for sure it works on a 94 318is!! Hope this helps some people with that 1284 code. bmw318is1994 is offline Report Post Reply With Quote __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 06-12-2008, 02:23 PM | #32 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | can you tell me how to do that reset thing i was gonna unplug my battery and yank my ECU and plug it back in i thouhg it might have a bad connection or something __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 06-12-2008, 02:45 PM | #33 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | You have to contact member bmw318is1994 __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 06-12-2008, 03:12 PM | #34 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | I think one of your plugs is not firing. Look at the plugs and see if one of them is sootier than the others. If a plug comes out too easily that could cause the problem. Make sure the cables are on tight at the plugs AND under the cover of the coil assembly. Also be sure the cables are in the right order! __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 06-12-2008, 03:24 PM | #35 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Further spark testing: __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 06-13-2008, 02:49 AM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | ok thanks alot buTIful im gonna go test the plugs and the wires and 2 quick questions if my plugs, wires, and coils are bad will they cause a CEL and will and of this effect the idle when the ac is on? thanks again i really appreciate all the help from everyone who posted suggestions you guys are awsome __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 06-13-2008, 07:37 AM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | well i cleaned up my plugs and and made sure the wires were in the right spots and IT WORKED the plugs were dirty so everything is FIXED but there is another problem whenever i turn on the ac the fuse for the compressor blows the box says use a 7.5 amp fuse i changed it to a 10 amp and it blew when i pushed the ac button keep in mind guys that i dont have a ti m42 motor its off of a coupe or a sedan but its still a m42 should i just put a bigger fuse? __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 06-13-2008, 02:13 PM | #38 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Good to hear your car runs better now. Were you able to test or replace the plug wires? Have you had a compression test? __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 07-27-2008, 08:38 PM | #42 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | i got top of the line plugs Bosch 4+ platinum no compression test and i still have the same wires and coils __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 08-08-2008, 04:00 PM | #43 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: California Posts: 9 | I'm having a similar problem so I ran across this thread...
